Bartholomeus Van der Helst
(Haarlem, 1613-Amsterdam, 1670) Dutch painter. Eliasz Nicolaes disciple, was one of the founders of the guild of painters in Amsterdam (1653). Influenced by Rembrandt, was consolidated as fashionable portrait painter in the circle of the gentry of Amsterdam, are remarkable collective portraits (Family Reepmaker). Van Der Helst
moved to Amsterdam from his native Haarlem in 1636, interest in portraits Group Rembrandt painted Frans Hals and without the ability to assimilate both pictorial genius. However, in the 1640 Rembrandt used the decline to serve as unofficial first painter of the city, working in a style hugely influenced by Van Dyck .
